Medication Administration
The Omaha Public School district requires written authorization from a licensed prescriber and signed consent from the parent/guardian for any medication to be administered to a student by school personnel. This includes prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and homeopathic medications.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide updated medication orders annually and as changes occur.
- It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide non-expired medications in the original pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container.
- Medications in bags or other forms of “home packaging” will not be accepted due to safety concerns.
- Controlled medications must be brought to school by an adult.
- Medication may be administered by the school nurse, health aide, or other school personnel competency trained in medication administration.
- If needed, the prescribing health care provider may be contacted by the school nurse for clarification on medication administration.
